This week's MICKnuggets!

07.02.18- UNSETTLED LAW

The president has a decision to make.  He has a nomination to the Supreme Court in front of him…and the Democrats are unsettled.

You see, with this appointment the balance of the court is likely to swing from 4-4 with a swing vote to 5-4 with a conservative edge.

Democrats in and out of the senate are crying that Rowe v Wade is settled law, implying that once the Supreme Court has made a decision that it should never be overturned.

Remember the Dred Scott case?  Were it not overturned blacks in the US would still be slaves and not allowed to be citizens even if they were born here.  Seems we fought a war about that one.

How about Plessy v Ferguson?  Had Brown v Board of Education not come along, blacks would still be in separate education facilities that were determined to be equal in Plessy, even though they were not.

So, Democrats…do you want to tell me again about settled law?

Yeah, I didn’t think so.

07.03.18- VIVA LA DIFFERENCE

A University of Washington computer science professor penned an essay asserting that women don’t enter the computer coding field because they are inherently, get this, different from men and therefore make different choices than men make!

The university responded with a big, “how dare he?” and a petition asking students how they “felt” about the professor’s assertions.  I told you there was an inquisition going on!

However, not all common sense has been lost.  I am now in love with a writer named Jenna Greene whose recent Smokeroom column celebrated a British study that shows women are more attracted to men who display a “benevolent sexism” in their interactions with the fairer sex.

Jenna, my love, says she prefers men who see her as more delicate, to be cherished and protected and who demonstrate that by their actions.

Now if she’ll just get home, start the cooking and practice her curling skills on the kitchen floor, we’ll be all set!

Viva la difference!

07.05.18- Let Freedom Ring- unless it’s July 4th in Rockledge!

How does this happen on Independence Day?

Rockledge was hosting the celebration of our freedom in a city park.  It happened to fall in a political season.  So, activists and candidates were out meeting people and talking issues at the event which drew a crowd.

Well, they were until the folks managing the event told them that political speech was not allowed at the Independence Day celebration.  Yes, you heard that correctly.

The very rights the day was founded upon were being trampled by the government hosting the event that was celebrating those rights.

City officials from the city manager to the police on site got this wrong.  Candidates for office stifled, a combat veteran and even seniors who remember the meaning of the day were silenced by government.

Maybe Rockledge needs a history lesson…and one in 1776 style activism wouldn’t hurt either.  Do they sail tea into Rockledge?

07.06.18- TWITTER NEWS FATIGUE

Maybe it’s because the president “tweets” or maybe it’s because we are now a society of abbreviated communication overall, but I am sick of every news story reporting what someone, or the masses, have tweeted about the news.

I’m OK with everyone having their own opinions about whatever story is in play, but the media has taken to twitter as if it is THE authority on public opinion and commentary.  For the record: tweets just aren’t long enough to be commentary, much less well thought out commentary.

One activist author who writes for HuffPost (is that a twitter handle?) caused a stir when she said she was confused by a black man driving a BMW that sported two conservative bumper stickers.

The report said the twitterverse exploded with accusations of racism condemning her thoughts.  She eventually deleted the post.

While her hypocrisy was on display, she was driven to reaction by nameless, faceless keyboard warriors.

Maybe she should rethink the career!
