Today’s adults, many of us anyway, grew up with Jim Henson’s Muppets. Sesame Street, the Muppet Show, the Muppet Movie and the sequels have entertained generations of us by now.
Jim Henson’s kids also grew up and the movie they have produced ain’t their daddy’s Muppet Movie, “The Happytime Murders” has puppets who have grown beyond the simple lessons and comedy of the Muppets. They are ALL grownup, adult humor and all.
They are so grown up that the Sesame Workshop, holders of the Muppet image these days, filed suit to stop the movie from using the tagline “No Sesame-All Street.”
They lost and the tag line and the profane, drug using, violent and sexually explicit puppets may continue demonstrating their adult entertainment as they had promoted.
This movie isn’t going to be for everybody and it certainly isn’t for kids, but it does promise to be funny.
Find a babysitter and remember this ain’t your daddy’s Muppets, either!
