Last week the rage on social media was a recording of a spoken word asking just which word you heard, Laurel or Yanny. Apparently there was some auditory anomaly that caused some to hear one or the other.
Let’s try it with another word and the perception it brings home to you. I feel like PASSWORD here. The word is feminist.
Right now you have a picture in your mind. What does that feminist look like to you? Is it different if I tell you the feminist is male? What’s he look like?
Psychologists in Norway studied this perception and found that when the feminist is a man nearly everyone perceived him as less than manly.
The funny thing was that when it was a woman, the perception was also less than womanly.
The obvious conclusion, when even feminists also perceive it this way, is that feminism makes anyone less than what they actually are…
Me? I’m a lumberjack and I’m OK!
