Brevard’s School Board is facing a tough call. How to best protect our schools from active shooters is the question. They are hearing from the anti-gun crowd, loud and often.
They will hear more as the Board embarks on the “Thank You, Sir. May I Have Another” tour at three school venues across the county. They are also having employee meetings and surveys as they seek the right answer.
The Sheriff recommends all four prongs of his safety plan that includes the school marshal or guardian program- STOMP. Detractors want no guns other than the SRO’s in schools.
When my car is broken I seek a competent mechanic. A plumbing issue, it’s Sun Plumbing. For school safety, it’s Sheriff Wayne Ivey which is also bolstered by my own law enforcement experience.
Unemotional, factual analysis is necessary from those in the know about active shooter situations. I am not relying on traumatized teenagers and emotional mom groups for this call.
Neither should the school board.
