Mick's Morning News: 04.06.18

Local Family Recalls Time With Thunderbird Pilot  (West Melbourne, FL) -- The Air Force Thunderbirds pilot who died in a crash leaves behind some warm memories for a Brevard County family. Major Stephen Del Bagno died this week when his F-16 Fighting Falcon crashed in Nevada during training. Del Bagno was one of the Thunderbirds who took part in the Melbourne Air and Space Show two weeks ago, where he made a strong impression on a five-year-old West Melbourne boy. Jen Rutherford tells "Florida Today" Del Bagno made her son's day when he chatted with the five-year-old, answered all kinds of questions and even showed him a special Thunderbirds handshake.

Man Critically Hurt After Golf Cart Crash  (St. Cloud, FL) -- A man is in critical condition after a golf cart crash in Osceola County. Michael Patrick was a passenger in a golf cart that was hit by a car yesterday morning near St. Cloud at Narcoossee and Thompkins roads. FHP says the golf cart pulled out in front of the car, which could not stop in time, and Patrick was ejected. The driver of the golf cart suffered minor injuries, and the driver of the car was not hurt. GOLF CARTS, YOU ARE NOT PEDESTRIANS…TRY A LITTLE RESPONSIBILITY!

Judge Rejects Challenge Of Education Bill  (Tallahassee, FL) -- A Leon County judge is helping a controversial law stay intact. Judge John Cooper this week rejected a claim by several school districts that HB 7069 was unconstitutional. The law calls for more funding for charter schools, but some argue it undermines the power of local school boards. House Speaker Richard Corcoran praised the judge's ruling, and he tells the "Tampa Bay Times" school districts should drop their wasteful, foolish challenges.

Drive-By Shootings Reported In Tallahassee  (Tallahassee, FL) -- The search is on for a pickup truck believed to be the source of two shootings. Tallahassee Police say residents reported gunshots being fired from someone inside a pickup truck on Tuesday. The first incident happened at The Meadows Mobile Home Park on Roberts Ave, and another report came in two hours later from Devra Drive. The "Tallahassee Democrat" reports witnesses counted a total of four shots, but no one was hurt. I WONDER IF THE SHOOTER WAS OVER 21 & WAITED 3 DAYS BEFORE GETTING THE GUN.

Dad Arrested For Having Gun On Campus  (Miami, FL) -- A dad is facing charges for what Miami-Dade school officials call irresponsible, abhorrent and reckless behavior. Ramon Nuiry was arrested yesterday for possessing a gun on school property. The 53-year-old says he put the loaded gun in his eight-year-old son's backpack, but he forgot it was in there when he dropped the boy off at school yesterday morning. Nuiry then went back to Kendale Lakes Elementary on Southwest 93rd Street, took the gun out of the backpack and walked out, but not before a parent saw him and told school officials, who contacted police. BECAUSE EVERY 8 YEAR OLD NEEDS A GUN IN HIS BACKPACK…BUT WOULD IT HAVE BEEN BETTER FOR DAD TO HAVE NOT REMOVED THE GUN?

Students Question Leaders About School Safety  (Coral Springs, FL) -- Students' fears about their safety extend far beyond the classroom. That's the message students spread at the 12th annual 'Teen Political Forum' yesterday at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts. CBS4 reports more than a thousand students got to question officials from Broward County and Coral Springs. A Stoneman Douglas High School student says they're not just worried about safety at schools, but also safety at malls, restaurants and other gathering places. AND WHAT BANS WILL THEY WANT IN PLACE THERE SO YOU ARE DEFENSELESS IN ALMOST EVERY PLACE?

Man Charged With Reselling Stolen Goods Online  (San Antonio, TX) -- A Texas man is in world of trouble for allegedly setting up a fake online business to sell stolen goods. Julio Deleon is accused of stealing tools, weed eaters and fixtures and unloading them on eBay through a fake company that wasn't registered with the state. Police say he wasn't paying state or federal taxes and took him into custody earlier this week. The 28-year-old is charged with felony organized retail theft. Three other people are still being questioned. I SUPPOSE HE COULD ALWAYS OPEN AN ICE CREAM STORE IN WEST MELBOURNE!
