A UCF student was Baker acted after making social media comments in praise of a couple of recent active shooters. His father’s gun was taken from him at the time of the commitment.
An Orlando judge has declined to extend the protective order, the first Orlando police have issued under the state’s new school safety law. He also returned the gun to the 21 year old student.
The student’s attorney characterized the police action as engaging in hypothetical situations as they were “trying to get” the student.
The student talked of the rush and the fame the shooters must have felt and do have. He also, when asked where his target would be, said probably his junior or high school.
Did the police avert an attack in this situation? We simply do not know. But we claim to want the shooting to stop…but it appears we want the cops to stop it with no forward thought…hypothetical, that is.
Yes, we are asking them to do the impossible.
