Honor. Somebody, or several somebodies, forget it was in the name of a local charity. Honor America operated the Liberty Bell Museum and funded patriotic parades in Melbourne.
The building was owned by the city, leased cheaply to the charity and was in need of repair. The city dropped a $15 thousand grant to the charity for half of the stated cost of repair. It’s their building, it makes sense. The charity was to cover the other “half.” Except the price was inflated, the work shoddy and half of the charity’s half was kicked back to West Melbourne Councilman John Tice who has been arrested for these fraud related crimes.
What about Betty Moore, the Melbourne councilman who was President of Honor America and had moved for the city to grant the funds? And she voted on the measure to approve the idea for the charity she ran. Apparently ethics are not the issue.
To the rescue is West Melbourne councilman Stephany Eley who says she will straighten out the charity’s finances. With what, an old TV or a Target card? Frying pan and fire anyone?
