Since Valentine’s Day I have said that the debate in this country needs to be about school safety and what will actually accomplish that goal. The debate has been successfully diverted from that to one of gun control.
While no one in his right mind could believe that restricting law abiding citizens’ ability to own or carry a firearm would provide any measure of safety for schools, the gun control groups have made that the issue in the forefront.
It’s a distraction from the safety of our kids and for that reason alone Everytown for Gun Safety and affiliated groups, including the teachers’ unions, should be ashamed.
Taking my firearms, restricting my ability to buy them or accessories will not stop the next shooter. What will? The only reasonable answer is armed, trained personnel who know how to engage and stop a shooter.
Fight your gun control battle, sure, but could we stop listening to the gun control debate long enough to actually make our schools safer?
