Average US Price of Gas Jumps 6 Cents Per Gallon to $3.02

An emergency declaration is in effect for parts of the U.S. after a major oil pipeline was shut down.

The Colonial pipeline that supplies much of the East Coast shut down Friday when its computer systems were infected with ransomware. Over five-thousand miles of pipeline were taken offline after the attack.

The regional emergency will provide support for transportation of gas and other refined petroleum products to 17 states and the District of Columbia.

The shutdown could cause gas prices to rise across the country.

The average cost of a gallon of gas in the U.S. is now $3.02, six cents higher than it was two weeks ago.

In contrast, the average cost of a gallon of gas was $1.05 less a year ago.

San Francisco has the highest cost per gallon at $4.16 while Baton Rouge has the lowest cost at $2.55.
