Unemployment Falls to 11.1% amid Pandemic

Now Hiring

The Department of Labor reports that the U.S. added 4.8 million jobs in June as the unemployment rate fell to 11.1%.

However, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says the recent jobs report is not all good news.

Pelosi says the latest jobs report reflects the status of the economy as it began opening back up "unsuccessfully."

Speaking on MSNBC, the California Democrat noted that the report marked the 15th straight week where over one-million people applied for unemployment. Pelosi said she is "all for great news for when there's a good job numbers" but there is no question that Congress needs to pass more stimulus.

However, nearly 50,000 new coronavirus cases were reported Wednesday, another single-day record while the number of Americans filing for unemployment took a small dip last week to 1.47 million.
