WATCH: FDLE Investigates Miami-Dade Deputy‑Involved Shooting

MIAMI‑DADE (February 4, 2026) — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a deputy‑involved shooting that occurred during a warrant operation conducted by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office in early December.

According to MDSO, on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at approximately 5:30 a.m., members of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit arrived at a residence near SW 155 Street and SW 102 Place to serve a warrant. The operation was supported by the agency’s Special Response Team (SRT).

Deputies say SRT personnel identified themselves and repeatedly announced their presence while attempting to make contact with occupants inside the home. After receiving no response, the team breached the front door.

Two adults and one child were found inside and safely removed from the residence.

Moments later, an adult male armed with a firearm confronted deputies from within the home. Deputies discharged their service weapons, striking Christopher Barata. Cristian Barata was later found inside the residence and taken into custody without incident.

Deputies immediately rendered medical aid to the injured man until Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived. Christopher Barata was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No deputies or members of the community were injured.
