(Orlando, FL) - Orlando city leaders are expected to vote today on funding a permanent memorial honoring the 49 lives taken in the Pulse Nightclub mass shooting.

If the $12 million memorial plan passes, the design phase could start within weeks.

The agreement to build the permanent memorial is a partnership between the city of Orlando which is committing $7 million plus overruns and Orange County which has pledged $5 million spread over three annual payments.

Officials say, if passed, the memorial should take two years to finish and will include a welcome center, tribute wall and 49 columns for the 49 killed in 2016.
