Flagler County, FL - A welfare check at a senior woman's Palm Coast residence led to the discovery of 96 cats living under her care.
The Flagler County Sheriff's Office responded to the call, finding the woman trying to manage all the animals inside her home.
Authorities stated that there was no evidence of intentional animal abuse or neglect.
However, the living conditions in the home were deemed unsafe and unsanitary due to overcrowding.
Deputies concluded that the cats needed to be removed to prevent potential health and safety risks for both the woman and the animals.
The woman, whose name has not been made public, is not facing any charges related to the situation.
After the welfare check, Palm Coast Animal Control was contacted and swiftly removed the cats from the home.
They were transported to Flagler Animal Hospital for medical evaluation and care.
The hospital will ensure the cats receive the necessary treatment before being made available for adoption.
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly encouraged local residents to consider adopting one of the rescued cats through the Flagler Humane Society, once they are ready for adoption.
He also emphasized the importance of responsible pet ownership, urging people to only adopt as many pets as they can properly care for, in line with local ordinances.
This rescue serves as a reminder of the responsibilities pet owners have in maintaining proper care and conditions for their animals.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation to ensure the safety of all involved.
