Brevard County, FL - A 3-year-old boy is recovering in stable condition after being accidentally shot at a home in Mims.
According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 12:20 p.m. on Monday at a residence on Arianta Drive, a rural area just off U.S. 1 in North Mims.
Authorities say the child was inside the home when a teenage relative allegedly attempted to move a firearm to a “secure location.”
During the process, the weapon discharged, and the bullet struck the toddler in the arm.
Emergency responders transported the child to a nearby hospital, and he was later airlifted to a trauma center in Orlando for further treatment.
As of Tuesday, officials confirmed the child is expected to recover.
No arrests have been made at this time.
The sheriff’s office said the shooting appears to have been accidental, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses and examining how the firearm was accessed and handled inside the home.
Authorities have not yet disclosed whether any adults in the residence legally owned the firearm or if it was properly secured before the incident.
Florida law mandates safe storage of firearms, especially in homes with minors.
The case remains open, and investigators are urging anyone with relevant information to contact Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Agent Stanton Wimer at (321) 633‑8413.
