The driver of a fire truck that collided with a Brightline Train just days after Christmas has been relieved of his duties.

Delray Beach City Manager Terrence Moore says driver-engineer David Wyatt has been terminated by Delray Fire Rescue after an investigation by the city.

In a statement, Moore says the train collision on December 28th was more than a traffic incident. He calls it a "moment that tested the integrity of our public safety systems and shook the confidence of the community."

Wyatt drove the truck, which was on its way to a call, into the path of an oncoming train.

Back in 2023, Wyatt failed to complete driving school that was required after he drove his personal car onto a median and struck a tree.

The city manger calls this a "pattern of carelessness and poor judgement" and not an isolated error.
