Miami, FL - South Miami is set to launch a complimentary, on-demand ride-share service to enhance local transportation options.
Beginning February 27th, the city will roll out "MetroConnect SoMi," an app-based public transit service integrated with Miami-Dade County's MetroConnect app.
This initiative replaces the previous Freebee service, with the city transitioning to Via as its new technology provider to establish a "highly efficient digital network."
The MetroConnect SoMi service will operate within South Miami during the following hours:
- Thursday to Saturday: 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- Sunday: 12 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Additionally, the service will offer connections to the Dadeland South and Dadeland North Metrorail stations with the following schedule:
- Weekdays: 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Saturdays: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Sundays: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Residents and visitors can book rides through the MetroConnect app, available for download on both the App Store and Google Play.
For those without smartphone access, rides can be requested by calling 786-321-5842.
The service is free of charge and offers wheelchair-accessible vehicles upon request.
South Miami initially introduced a free, point-to-point on-demand transportation service via Freebee in November of 2020.
The transition to Via aims to enhance service efficiency and expand coverage for the community.
