Fort Pierce, FL - Limbani, an internet-famous chimpanzee with over a million Instagram followers, has started a new chapter at Save the Chimps, a renowned sanctuary in Fort Pierce.
After spending his first eight years at Miami's Zoological Wildlife Foundation (ZWF), the move marks a significant milestone as he transitions to life among other chimpanzees.
Born on August 24, 2016, with pneumonia and rejected by his mother, Limbani received early care from Tania and Jorge Sanchez before being entrusted to ZWF's owners, Mario and Maria Tabraue.
The private zoo gained widespread attention for Limbani, sharing his playful antics on Instagram, including riding toy cars and climbing enclosures.
In a statement, Save the Chimps explained that Limbani’s relocation reflects a desire to provide him with the best life possible.
The sanctuary, located on a 150-acre property, is home to more than 220 chimpanzees and offers a naturalistic environment where they can thrive and socialize.
Upon arriving at Save the Chimps, Limbani entered the Special Needs Play Yards, where veterinary and behavioral teams assessed his health and prepared him for life in the sanctuary’s island habitats.
Videos show him exploring his new surroundings, climbing bamboo structures, and enjoying treats like colorful mini-peppers and oatmeal.
Save the Chimps, one of the largest chimpanzee sanctuaries globally, has been dedicated to rescuing and caring for chimpanzees since its founding in 1997.
The nonprofit provides a safe haven where chimps can live in enriched environments designed to meet their social and emotional needs.
ZWF, the Miami-based zoo Limbani called home for eight years, continues to operate as a reservation-only facility offering interactive wildlife tours and conservation education.
The zoo recently hosted holiday events, including a toy drive, animal presentations, and festive activities for visitors.
Limbani’s transition to Save the Chimps represents a fresh start, allowing him to grow and thrive in a supportive, community-oriented environment alongside others of his kind.pter.
