Pembroke Pines, FL - A South Florida family is mourning after their 15-year-old son was killed after being struck by a car near a school bus stop in Pembroke Pines on Thursday.
The accident occurred around 6:38 a.m. on the 12200 block of Washington Street.
According to police, the teenager was standing partially in the roadway and partially on the median when he was hit.
Despite lifesaving efforts, the boy succumbed to his injuries and died at a nearby hospital.
The teenager was a student at Flanagan High School, and the school community is mourning his loss.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation, but authorities believe poor weather conditions may have contributed to the incident.
The morning commute was impacted by a storm with heavy rain and lightning.
