ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- A company that made its name in shoes is walking out of New York for a move to the Tampa Bay area.
Foot Locker is relocating its headquarters from the Big Apple to St. Petersburg effective next year.
The shoe retailer already has extensive operations in Florida and says the move will reduce costs and make collaboration easier.
Foot Locker was founded almost 50 years ago, but its roots go back nearly a century before that, through its former parent company, discount retailer F.W. Woolworth.
Its NYSE ticker symbol, coincidentally, is FL.
