Miami-Dade, FL - A Miami-Dade County man is facing charges after allegedly attempting to set his ex-girlfriend's apartment on fire during a May arson attempt.
According to police, 30-year-old Gabriel Vazquez Huerga targeted his ex's apartment at Bella Vista Point complex on May 16th, shortly after their one-year relationship had ended.
Investigators say Huerga followed the victim, who was moving belongings to her mother's house, and parked his vehicle near the apartment complex.
Huerga is then alleged to have approached his ex’s apartment carrying a container of flammable liquid and a lighter.
Security footage captured Huerga allegedly attempting to ignite the fluid on the victim's door, but it failed to catch fire.
Huerga then fled the scene after discarding the lighter and container.
The apartment complex's surveillance video captured distinctive tattoos on Huerga’s exposed left hand, which helped authorities identify him.
Police arrested Huerga on May 30th on a first-degree arson charge.
He received a $7,500 bond during his arraignment.
A judge ordered Huerta to stay away from the victim and a designated relative.
