Sea Turtle Nesting Season Begins Today

Today is March First, marking the start of sea turtle nesting season. Broward Environmental Project Coordinator Stephanie Roache says be mindful when you are on the beach since it's against the law to disturb sea turtles or their nests. You can help them thrive by picking up all your trash, knocking down holes and sandcastles and turning off your cellphone at night since the turtles get disoriented by lights. The season ends October thirty-first. Last year, Broward had a record-breaking season with 4,785 nests spotted along the County's 24-mile coastline. The majority were loggerheads followed by green turtles and leatherbacks.
