Lauderhill, FL - Lauderhill police have arrested a man in connection with a bias-motivated attack on an elderly man near a synagogue on Saturday.
The incident occurred on Northwest 44th Street near the Synagogue of Inverrary-Chabad.
The victim, identified as 69-year-old Asher Moryosef, was reportedly leaving the synagogue when he was assaulted.
According to police reports, Mr. Moryosef sustained visible injuries, including facial bruising, minor abrasions, and severe body pain.
Authorities believe the attack may have been motivated by the victim's religious attire.
Rabbi Yaniv Moryosef, the victim's son, described the experience as traumatizing, stating that his father was "swollen, bleeding from his face and eyes."
Fortunately, an Uber driver witnessed the attack and intervened, prompting the assailant to flee the scene.
The driver's quick action is credited with potentially preventing further harm.
The suspect, identified as Trevor Rodney, was apprehended and charged with battery on a person over 65 and felony evidence of prejudice.
He is currently held at the Broward Sheriff's Office Mail Jail on a $25,000 bond.
