North Port, FL - A man has been arrested for calling in a false bomb threat to a Southwest Florida Walmart.
Police say Coty J. Clements was arrested for making a false bomb threat at the Neighborhood Walmart on Tamiami Trail in Port Charlotte.
The Charlotte County Sheriff's Office responded to the bomb threat after a caller claimed there was a bomb inside the Walmart and said, "Tic Toc, Tic Toc" before hanging up.
Deputies discovered that the phone the threat was made from was accidentally left in the Walmart's restroom.
The phone's owner disclosed to police that 911 calls were being attempted through his Bluetooth watch.
Security footage revealed the phone owner entering and exiting the Walmart restroom before the threat was made.
Clements was identified as the man entering the bathroom after the phone owner left.
During the period when the bomb threat was made, Clements was the only person seen entering and exiting the restroom.
Following questioning, Clements confessed, citing similar calls made on the "Tik Tok" app as inspiration.
Clements was arrested on a felony charge of False Report About Planting Bomb or Weapon of Mass Destruction.
Released on a $15,000 bond, Clements is scheduled to appear in court next month.
