Ocala Man Brandishes Sword During Road Rage Attack

Ocala, FL - An Ocala man is facing charges for a road rage incident that escalated to a violent assault when he tried to stab another driver with a sword.

Authorities say 65-year-old Gervacio Aranca Jr. was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, damage to property, and throwing a missile into a vehicle following an altercation on SW Hwy 200 last Friday.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office says the incident began at a traffic light when Aranca allegedly revved his engine at the victim.

The victim confronted Aranca, but Aranca drove off.

The tension continued as the two drove down Highway 200, with both men yelling at each other.

According to investigators, Aranca allegedly threw an object from his car, hitting the back door of the victim's vehicle and causing $1,000 worth of damage.

After pulling over, Aranca emerged from his vehicle brandishing a sword and allegedly came within a few feet of the victim while thrusting it forward in an attempt to stab him.

The victim, fearing for his life, managed to get back to his car and call 911.

When questioned by deputies, Aranca claimed the victim initiated the incident and "side-swiped" his car.

Aranca also alleged feeling threatened, claiming the victim pointed a gun at him.

However, Aranca's wife contradicted this statement, saying she never saw a firearm

Despite Aranca's claims, he was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he remains held on a $19,000 bond.
