Clearwater, FL - An altercation at a Family Dollar store resulted in the arrest of an armed man who used a lollipop as a weapon to assault a store clerk.

According to reports, 24-year-old Dalton Reed engaged in a "verbal argument" with the store manager at a Clearwater Family Dollar store while waiting in line to check out.

As the exchange escalated, Reed allegedly flung a lollipop at the clerk, hitting him in the chest.

Police say the impact of the candy "did not cause bodily harm" to the clerk.

Reed was taken into custody on charges of simple battery.

Authorities added a possession of drug paraphernalia charge when a post-arrest search of Reed revealed a crack pipe in one of his pockets.

Reed is currently in county detention with a bond set at $650 for the two misdemeanor charges.

A judge has issued a restraining order against Reed, prohibiting him from entering the Family Dollar store and instructing him to have no contact with the clerk.
