Woman Arrested After Machete Standoff on DeLand Bus

Volusia County, FL - A woman has been arrested following an incident in which she used a machete to restrain passengers on a DeLand bus.

Police say 35-year-old Ciasha Fletcher has been detained in the Volusia County jail on charges stemming from the August 9th incident.

Authorities were dispatched to the DeLand Intermodal Transit Facility at approximately 4 p.m. in response to reports of an assault.

Fletcher was allegedly preventing passengers aboard a Votran bus from disembarking, brandishing a machete in a menacing manner.

While passengers ultimately managed to exit the bus, law enforcement officers encountered Fletcher still in possession of the machete.

Fletcher relinquished the weapon when confronted by police; however, a pocket knife was discovered concealed in her bra after she was handcuffed.

Fletcher informed officers that her motivation was an attempt to retrieve her wallet from an individual.

Witnesses told police Fletcher accused a couple on the bus of theft, leading to her brandishing the machete.

The man in the couple pushed Fletcher aside and fled the bus, followed by his girlfriend.

The bus driver told police that Fletcher employed the knife to detain other passengers, restricting their movements and preventing them from leaving the bus.

Fletcher was taken into custody on two counts of false imprisonment and a charge of aggravated assault.

She remains detained without bail.
