Bipartisan legislation has been filed in Washington by two members of Congress from Florida that is aimed at combatting human trafficking at adult entertainment venues.
Republican Mike Waltz is co-sponsor of the "Study to Observe and Prevent," or STOP Human Trafficking Act."
"Adult entertainment nightclubs, strip clubs often serve as a magnet and a conduit for human trafficking."
CBS 12 reports Democrat Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick of South Florida joined Waltz in re-introducing this bill this week.
It would direct the U.S. Attorney General investigate exploitation happening at those clubs and report the findings to Congress.
"We have cartels, Mafia, even organizations like the Russian mob that are trafficking girls across state lines. They often follow entertainment venues."
Florida ranks third in the nation for cases of human trafficking, behind California and Texas. As part of this new proposal, the AG would have 15 months to conduct its study and Waltz thinks it will lead to change.
"This is about saving young girls lives and about getting after the billions that these human trafficking rings are making while they're ruining the lives of our kids."
