South Florida Teacher Arrested for Inappropriate Behavior with Students

Miami-Dade, FL - A Florida teacher has been arrested and charged with battery and inappropriate behavior with children after a 10-year-old student accused him of sending her explicit texts and a photo.

Authorities say Eric Givens was arrested in connection with two incidents that occurred at two different schools.

The first incident involved a 10-year-old student at Theodore and Thelma Gibson Charter School.

The student claimed that in March, Givens, her former teacher, sent her a text message saying, "Always wanted to date you" and "oh wow I wanna see you bad."

The text was accompanied by a photo of Givens wearing only boxer briefs.

When questioned, Givens told police that he thought he was messaging the student's mother.

The second incident occurred when Givens was working at St. Mary’s Cathedral School.

A victim informed police that Givens had grabbed her wrist, hair, and breasts on at least seven occasions in 2019 when she was in 5th grade.

At the time of his arrest, Givens was working at the Scheck Hillel Community School.

The Head of School, Rabbi Ari Leubitz, confirmed that Givens was a first-year teacher who was terminated following his arrest.

Leubitz stated that the allegations leading to Givens' arrest were not made public before his employment.

Authorities suspect there may be other victims as Givens worked at multiple schools.

Anyone with information regarding Givens' crimes is urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
