The Palm Beach County town of Lantana will go without a Mayor for the next five months.

Robert Hagerty resigned the position in September, halfway through his three-year term. He moved to Orlando for a new job.

Hagerty was elected in March of last year, when voters chose him over seven-term incumbent David Stewart.

The remaining members of the Town Council this week voted to forego appointing an immediate replacement. Vice Mayor Karen Lythgoe will serve as acting mayor until next March's election. She plans to run to become the official mayor.

Stewart, who served for 21 years, says he hasn't decided whether he will run again.

Lythgoe says any agenda items that deadlock in a 2-to-2 vote will be held back until a new mayor is elected. She told the Palm Beach Post that most of the remaining business between now and March are "housekeeping" issues.
