Starting today information about safe gun storage will be mailed with every concealed weapons permit issued by the Florida Agriculture and Consumer Services Department.
Commissioner Nikki Fried says the tips will also be available at all licensing and tax collectors offices.
She hopes the Be Safe campaign will help prevent accidental gun deaths and injuries.
Guns are the leading cause of death of children in the U.S., with four-point-six-million American kids living in a home with an unlocked, loaded gun.
Be SMART's Pam Weisbrod says as of the end of last month, in Florida alone this year there were at least nine unintentional shootings by children leading to four deaths and six injuries.
