Neighborhood 4th of July Celebration Ends With Gunfire

Sad end to an impromptu 4th of July neighborhood celebration in Winter Haven.

One person was killed, two others injured when shots rang out in the midst of the fireworks. Polk County Public Safety Director Charlie Bird said someone who was in the crowd in the 200 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd saw something. "We're going to do everything we can as an agency to put those responsible behind bars where they belong," Bird said.

Bird said those responsible "took a celebration of our country and turned it into a sad event for the family members."

"It was a large crowd," Bird said. "Somebody in that crowd saw something that took place, they know what took place. For whatever reason, they're scared. They don't want to get involved. Whatever the reason might be, we're asking them to step forward and do the right thing."

A $5 thousand reward has been set up for any information that could lead to an arrest.

The victims have not been identified under Marsy's Law.
