Extra Police Presence At South Florida Event After Illinois Shooting

On back of a mass shooting at a July 4th parade near Chicago, a fireworks celebration in South Florida featured beefed up police presence.

West Palm Beach Police confirm there were extra officers at the 4th on Flagler event Monday night, both visible and behind the scenes.

The news out of Illinois wasn't keeping the crowds away.

Ginger Fowlkes tells CBS 12 News that nothing was going to keep her away from the downtown waterfront.

"Mass shootings can be anywhere, so we can't let that stop us from having a good time."

Sierra Cohen pointed out that guests had to be vigilant as well.

"You just have to be aware and check our surroundings."

Others said that seeing more cops on hand, sweeping through the crowd to assess any possible threats, made them feel safer.

There were no serious issues reported at the event.
