Suspect in Critical Condition After Deputy-Involved Shooting

Deputy-involved shooting in Hillsborough County.

Sheriff Chad Chronister says two of his men, while on foot patrol in the Dover area, were told a 35-year-old man wanted in connection with a shooting back in April was probably in a nearby shed.

The sheriff says Duane Davis was cornered in the shed by a K-9, and pointed a weapon at the deputies. He initially put that gun down, but Chronister says he changed his mind and reached for another weapon. "At this point," Chronister said, "the deputies were left with no choice and they discharged their firearms, striking the suspect several times in the upper torso area."

Davis was wanted on an aggravated battery warrant for shooting a relative back in April in a dispute over money.

Davis was taken to Tampa General Hospital and is listed in critical condition. FDLE is now investigating the shooting.
