One Dead in Multi-Agency Shootout in Carrollwood

One man is dead, and two others are in custody, after a multi-agency shooting in Carrollwood that was connected to Sunday's robbery at the Save-A-Lot on Fletcher Ave, in which shots were fired at a Hillsborough County deputy's car.

Sheriff Chad Chronister said the U.S. Marshals Service received a tip that robbery suspect Pedro Gamez was inside a home on Lake Ellen Circle. When the task force got there, 24-year-old Rico Dyches and a woman were outside. A SWAT team was called in, and Pedro Gamez eventually came out. He said the house was empty, but that turned out not to be the case, as 26-year-old Victor Gamez emerged from a bedroom closet---armed. "He actually comes out of the closet with his arm all the way out, holding a gun, charging two of the task force members," Chronister said. "in fear, clear fear for their lives, they had no choice but to discharge their service weapons."

Victor Gamez was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.

"These individuals were so violent and wanted to, without hesitation, terrorize this whole community," Chronister said. "I think we'll all sleep a little easier."

Pedro Gamez and Rico Dyches are both facing charges. A woman at the scene was questioned by deputies.
