TAMPA -- A city councilman is resigning to settle a lawsuit over an ethics question related to the sunshine law.
The Tampa city attorney's office says Councilman John Dingfelder will deliver his written resignation Monday.
He's stepping down as a condition of settling a lawsuit filed by real estate consultant Stephen Michelini alleging violations of the sunshine law over a south Tampa development.
The filing says Dingfelder will issue an apology, will not hold and run for city office for five years and will never discuss his reason for resigning with the media.
The city will have 30 days to fill his seat.
The city sent out the information after the story broke in the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
