Governor Announces Some Teachers And Cops Could Soon Get COVID Vaccines

There's new hope for some essential workers in Florida who want, but have been denied, COVID-19 shots.

Governor Ron DeSantis is pushing to offer vaccines appointments to not only the 65-and-older at the four federally-supported mass vaccination sites set to open next week, but "as long as it works out to where the doses will be allowed for this, we want that to be open not just to seniors, but to sworn law enforcement and classroom teachers. So, we’ll start probably 50 and up.”

DeSantis adds starting tomorrow seniors in Miami-Dade County will be able to schedule shots at any of the 31 Navarro Discount Pharmacy and 35 CVS Pharmacy y Mas' stores. Vaccines will also be available at 15 traditional CVS' statewide in under-served areas.

That includes 67 in Miami-Dade, 2 in Broward, 2 in Polk, 1 in Palm Beach, 1 in Collier, 1 in Escambia, 1 in Flagler, 1 in Hendry, 1 in Gadsden, 1 in Hillsborough, 1 in Manatee, 1 in St Lucie and 1 in Volusia Counties.

Appointments are required and can be made once they're available here on on the CVS Pharmacy app. Those who prefer making appointments over the phone can call contact CVS customer service: at 1 (800) 746-7287 or 1-800-Shop-CVS.

“One of our greatest strengths as a company is our presence in communities across the country, which makes us an ideal partner for administering vaccines in a safe, convenient, and inclusive manner,” said Ahmed Velez, Region Director, CVS Health. “We look forward to continuing to work with the state to defeat the virus and deliver on our shared commitment to increase access to the vaccine for underserved communities, in particular Florida’s Black and Hispanic populations.”
