The National Weather Service has confirmed the storm that walloped Deland Tuesday included an EF-2 tornado which can feature winds between 111 to 135 mph.
The tornado was on the ground for about 12 minutes- traveled about 4 miles and was about 500 yards across at its widest.
Homes and businesses were damaged, trees uprooted, there were downed power lines and some cars flipped over along six blocks of Woodland Blvd. Thousands of homes and businesses lost power. Heavy rains caused significant flooding. A State of Emergency has been declared.
One person suffered minor injuries. Damage assessment and cleanup continues. Crews are removing debris from area roads. The Red Cross is assisting a number of residents who have been displaced from their homes.
