HUD Secretary In Florida This Week To Break Ground

The nation's top housing boss is in South Florida helping break ground on some massive projects.

Thanks to a lot of creative financing and some public-private partnerships, an Allapattah neighborhood is about to become of one of the largest opportunity zone projects in possibly the whole country.

Housing and Urban Development Secretary Dr. Ben Carson says more than $20-million of Opportunity Zone funds were used to buy low income housing tax credits.

A third development being built in Miami will create more than 600 new affordable housing units.

Secretary Carson says the redevelopment of two of the Three Round Towers and the creation of a third with a price tag of more than $100-million is the largest opportunity zone project in possibly the whole country.

Carson believes the wave of the future is in public-private partnerships like this.
