Sections Of Florida's Turnpike Being Named To Honor 29 Fallen Troopers

Florida Highway Patrol

A five-mile stretch of the Turnpike in Palm Beach County is being dedicated in the memory of two Florida Highway Patrol officers who died in the line of duty.

The portion of roadway between mile markers 100 and 105 in West Palm Beach are being designated "Troopers Herman T. Morris and Frederick J. Groves, Jr., Memorial Highway."

Morris was on routine patrol in West Palm in March of 1972, when another vehicle forced his cruiser into a bridge railing.

Groves was shot and killed during a routine traffic stop on the Turnpike in September of 1984.

A ceremony is being held to honor both troopers at the Police Benevolent Association Banquet Hall, followed by a trip to the sign noting the dedication on the northbound side of the Turnpike at mile marker 100.

The ceremony happens at 2 p.m.

There are 26 such designations going on around the state, honoring 29 fallen state troopers.
