Some school children will have to wait to meet Florida's First Lady, after a lockdown occurred just minutes before she was supposed to appear.
Casey DeSantis was scheduled to show up at Freedom Shores Elementary School in Boynton Beach Thursday to make an announcement about education, but the appearance was canceled when that school and five others nearby were placed in Code Red lockdowns.
Police were looking for someone spotted in the area with what appeared to be a rifle. A short time later, the lockdowns at Citrus Cove Elementary, Franklin Academy Charter School, Freedom Shores Elementary, Hidden Oaks Elementary, the Royal Palm School and Santaluces Community High were lifted after a man was arrested for hiding behind a dumpster with what turned out to be a pellet gun.
The First Lady released a statement that she will quickly reschedule the visit to ensure families are aware of reading scholarships available for children.
