School Districts' Battle Over Charter Funding Heads To State Supreme Court

A fight between several Florida school districts and the state over education funding could go to the Florida Supreme Court.

The districts, which include Broward, Orange, Volusia and St. Lucie counties, filed notice last week to get their case against the state heard in the high court.

They're suing over House Bill 7069, claiming the state's ability to create charter schools and give them local dollars without approval from the districts violates Florida's Constitution.

An appeals court judge last month upheld a ruling in favor of the state.
