Former Boca Raton Mayor Haynie Could Face Trial For Corruption This Fall

Boca Raton Mayor Susan Haynie

The corruption case against former Boca Raton Mayor Susan Haynie could be heading to trial this fall.

The 63-year old is accused of collecting more than $330,000, much of which came from a developer at the same time that Haynie was voting on projects that benefited the company.

During a court hearing Monday, prosecutors and defense attorneys said they are aiming for an October or November trial date. Haynie was not present.

Prosecutors also disclosed their first witness in a court filing last week. Assistant State Attorney Brian Fernandes declined to say what Palm Beach County Chief Assistant Attorney Leonard Berger will testify about.

Haynie was suspended from office by then-Governor Rick Scott just days after she was charged with four felonies and three misdemeanors back in April of last year.
