Tampa Hosts Animation Camp for Autistic Teens

TAMPA -- About 30 students will get the chance to develop computer animation and music making skills at a summer camp this week, starting Monday (24th) at the College of Education at USF in Tampa.

Those students happen to be on the autism spectrum or have related disabilities.

The camp is taught by Dani Bowman, who is herself autistic. She's only in her early twenties, but she already has two bachelor's degrees and has started two business... Powerlight Studios and Danimation, which she owns, in California. The camp is sponsored by Arts4All, which works to bring arts and cultural education to Floridians with disabilities.

Phyllis Guthman with Arts4All says many children and young adults with autism excel in the arts and exposure to animation can help them become self-supporting by developing their skills.

This is the sixth year of the weeklong day camp program. A similar camp wrapped up last week in Miami.
