Memorial Day Observances In South Florida

Memorial Day isn't just about a day off work and parties. One North Miami man is making sure people remember why this is a holiday. Bruce Lamberto was on a tour of Caballero Rivero Southern Memorial Park when he noticed the tombstone of U-S Marine Corporal Howard Hinson, a North Miami vet who was just 20-years-old when he died in the Battle of Iwo Jima. He wanted to honor this hero, so he called city leaders and they decided to name a quater-acre of the park after Hinson . Today they're dedicating a plaque honoring Hinson and the 32 North Miami Beach veterans who died in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
