Flood Watch Issued For Brevard & Volusia Counties
(Melbourne, FL) --Flooding could be a problem today.The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Brevard and Volusia counties due to excessive rainfall.The NWS is expecting up to 4 inches of rain with some isolated amounts of up to 7 inches.
Gap In Soil Led To Apartment Evacuation
(Orlando, FL) --More details are out on what led to the evacuation of an apartment complex in Orange County. The property owner hired inspectors who recently completed a report into the problems found last month at The Rialto apartments in Dr. Phillips. The inspectors informed county officials last week they found a gap between the building's foundation and the soil underneath. The gap measured 3-feet deep and 15-feet across. That led cracks to form, and county officials ordered over 300 people to get out. Inspectors believe it could be two more months before it's safe enough for residents to be allowed back in.
DeSantis Signs Bill In Tampa
(Tampa, FL) --A new law is meant to protect Florida from Sharia law. Governor Ron DeSantis was in Tampa yesterday to sign HB 1471 at the University of South Florida. It bans Florida courts from applying or enforcing foreign or religious law if doing so would violate constitutional rights. DeSantis says we must defend our institutions from terrorist organizations that seek to infiltrate and subvert our education system.
Broward County Woman Accused Of Impersonating Police Officer
(Oakland Park, FL) -- A Broward County woman is accused of impersonating a police officer. Oakland Park's Annie Flaherty was arrested Saturday.The sheriff's office says she identified herself as a Miami-Dade Police officer and told neighbors on Northeast 6th Terrace she was investigating a case of stolen diamonds. Neighbors say she flashed a badge and threatened to get a search warrant to enter their homes. Deputies, though, say Flaherty is a flight attendant with Spirit Airlines.
Report: Homeowner Opened Fire After Being Ding-Dong Ditched
(Cincinnati, OH) -- Police have arrested a Cincinnati man who they say opened fired on a group of young people who ding-dong ditched his home. According the report, the juveniles banged on the man's door and ran -- getting into a vehicle to make their get-away. Before they could, flee, police say that Yarvis Godfrey came out of home and opened fire -- hitting the vehicle. The young people were unhurt and Godfrey says he was just trying to take out one of their tires. Godfrey is charged with felonious assault.
