(Coral Springs, FL)-- The husband of a Florida vice mayor is charged with her murder.Stephen Bowen is accused of shooting and killing Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen on Wednesday morning.Her body was found at the couple's home after police arrived to do a welfare check. Metayer Bowen was the city's first Black and Haitian American female commissioner and was appointed as the vice mayor in 2024. She was expected to announce a run for Congress.
Man Shot By Deputies In Sarasota County
(Sarasota, FL)-- A man is hospitalized after he was shot by deputies in Sarasota County.It happened last night in Sarasota at a home off 59th Street. The sheriff's office says deputies responded to a family disturbance and found a man named Robert Boast who pulled a gun and refused to put it away. Two deputies shot him, and he was taken to the hospital.Boast is in critical but stable condition. No deputies were hurt.
Walkway Collapses In Broward County
(Hallandale Beach, FL)-- An investigation is underway after a walkway collapsed in Broward County.Hallandale Beach Police say the walkway on East Hallandale Beach Boulevard collapsed yesterday afternoon.The walkway connects a parking garage and an office building that's also home to a pre-school. No one was hurt, but there could be damage to a couple cars that were parked under the walkway at the time. There's no word on what caused the collapse. One man tells NBC 6 deputies are blocking access to the parking garage where his car and about 50 others are stuck.
Jacksonville Smoke Shop Raided In Drug Bust
(Jacksonville, FL)-- Two people are in custody after a drug bust in Jacksonville. The sheriff's office announced yesterday the arrests were made Sunday at a smoke shop on Lem Turner Road. The JSO says several drugs and guns were in plain view.Police seized meth pills, meth crystals, cocaine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, five guns and 8-thousand dollars in cash.Two men were arrested, including a suspected drug trafficker out of Gainesville.
Researchers: Use Googly Eyes To Deter Seagulls
(Exeter) -- A new study says if you want to keep your food safe from seagulls at the beach, you might trying staring back at them. Researchers at the University of Exeter in the UK affixed a pair of toy "googly eyes" to plain boxes of food, and found it kept the foraging birds away about 50-percent of the time. But FOX 13 in Florida tested the theory, sticking the googly eyes to a bag of Cheetos, and the birds swarmed the snack anyway. Beachgoers told the affiliate the seagulls seem to be attracted to food packaged in bright colors, and go on to advise to just make sure your snacks are sealed up in Tupperware.
