Cold Snap Hits Central Florida

(Orlando, FL) --It's a cold morning in Central Florida. The National Weather Service had Cold Weather Advisories, Freeze Watches and Freeze Warnings in effect overnight across the region. Wind chills in the low-20s were expected. The cold will continue throughout the day. Highs today will only reach the high-50s.

Judge Hears Arguments In First Amendment Lawsuit

(Tallahassee, FL) --A Bay County woman fired over her social media posts claims her free speech rights were violated. Former FWC biologist Brittney Brown was in court yesterday after suing the state over her firing two months ago. She was fired after making an Instagram post mocking the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Brown's job with the FWC involved studying birds in the Tyndall Air Force Base Critical Wildlife Area. The FWC claims her post eroded public trust in the agency and harmed its credibility, but Brown claims the firing violated her First Amendment rights. The judge didn't issue a ruling, but said he would do so soon.

More Flights Disrupted At Florida Airports

(Undated) -- The effects of the government shutdown are still being felt at airports in Florida. Hundreds of flights were canceled or delayed yesterday at airports in Tampa and Orlando. At Tampa International Airport, about half of all flights were affected. Travelers are frustrated and blaming lawmakers. One man tells News Channel 8 he doesn't care which side is the problem, they just need to work through it because that's what they're supposed to do.

Main Sponsor Pulls Out Of Merritt Island Christmas Boat Parade

(Merritt Island, FL) -- There's uncertainty around an annual Christmas tradition in Brevard County. Blue Marlin Real Estate announced Saturday it'll not sponsor the Merritt Island Christmas Boat Parade this year. This comes after a crash at last year's event led to injuries and lawsuits. The company had been the event's main sponsor for eight years. There's no word on if the event will take place this year.

Man Tells Cops Cockroach Told Him To Kill

(Albuquerque, NM) --A New Mexico man charged in double homicide told deputies a cockroach told him to kill. The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office says 25-year-old Alexis Hernandez was charged with two open counts of murder in connection with a Friday incident inside a southwest Albuquerque home. The man allegedly said he received "an encrypted message in a cockroach" that he "needed to kill." Hernandez then said "had to do what he had to do."
