Indian River Lagoon Shows Signs Of Improvement

(Palm Bay, FL)-- The Indian River Lagoon is showing signs of improvement. A new report from the Marine Resources Council was released earlier this week, showing this year was better for lagoon restoration compared to 2023. Dr. Lauda Wilson presented the findings while in Brevard County on Monday, saying a lot of work still needs to be done before officials can really start rebuilding the local ecosystems back to how they were before large algae blooms formed. The waterway is a grouping of three lagoons in Central Florida, which make up about 40-percent of the state's eastern coast. Multi-million-dollar cleanup projects are currently underway to help move along recovery efforts.

Orange County Elections Supervisor Threatens To Sue County Commission After Funding Is Denied

(Orlando, FL) -- A dispute between the Orange County commission and the top elections official could lead to a lawsuit. Orange County Elections Supervisor Glen Gilzean is threatening to sue after the county commission voted Tuesday to pause funding his office. Commissioners want more info on how Gilzean spent about five million dollars in his budget. Gilzean says threatening to withhold funding from an independent constitutional office is not only outside the board's power but also outside the law.

Trump & Chronister Clash Over DEA Appointment

(West Palm Beach, FL)-- There seems to be a disagreement between Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister and President-Elect Trump. Chronister announced on Tuesday he was withdrawing from consideration to be DEA administrator under Trump. Yesterday, though, Trump said he pulled Chronister's nomination to lead the Drug Enforcement Administration. Trump wrote on Truth Social he did so because he didn't like what Chronister said to his pastors and other supporters. A spokeswoman for the sheriff's office, though, says Chronister stands behind his decision to withdraw from consideration.

General Motors CFO Says They Will Shift EV Strategy If Trump Eases Environmental Regulations

(Manalapan, FL)-- General Motors CFO Paul Jacobson says the automaker is ready to shift its strategy of having an all-electric vehicle lineup in the next decade. Jacobson says that will depend on President-elect Donald Trump easing environmental regulations when he takes office. He says they remain in a good position to hit their short-term EV sales targets even if the 75-hundred-dollar federal tax credit is repealed. Jacobson made his comments yesterday at the UBS Global Industrials and Transportation Conference in Florida.

Country's Second Largest Planetarium Coming To Tampa Bay

(Tampa, FL) -- The world's second largest planetarium is expected to go up in Tampa Bay. The Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa is planning to transform its former IMAX dome theatre to allow visitors to experience a movie through ten large digital projectors with a 360-view.Officials have spent about four-million dollars on constructing the Digital Dome Theatre so far. The total investment over the next few years is expected to reach up to ten-million dollars. The development is scheduled to open during the first half of next year.

CEO Wants Employees To Work 84 Hour Work Week

(San Francisco, CA)-- A CEO of a tech startup has openly said that he is looking for employees who are willing to work long hours, specifically up to 84 hours a week. Daksh Gupta [[ Dutch Goopta ]] leads a company called Greptile that focuses on artificial intelligence in San Francisco. He shared on social media that he expects his team to be available from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. at least five days a week, and often on weekends, to stay competitive in the market. While Gupta has faced a lot of criticism for the demanding schedule, he has also received several job applications. He's looking to hire software engineers who are ready to put in a lot of hard work, with the promise of significant financial rewards in the future.

Gender Reveal Explosion Shakes Homes

(Parkers Mill, KY)-- Some folks in Kentucky were a bit shaken, but no injuries were reported after a large explosion that was apparently part of a gender reveal. Residents called the Parkers Mill Fire Department last week after the explosion shook homes. Firefighters were called out, cleared the scene and posted on Facebook that the explosion site "was very blue."

1955, the Black community of Montgomery, Alabama launched their boycott of the city's bus system. Their actions came in response to the arrest of Rosa Parks, who refused to give up her seat on a segregated bus for a white man.
