Additional Mental Health Resources Available For First Responders
(Tampa, FL) -- There are more mental health resources for Florida certain frontline workers. Attorney General Ashley Moody held a news conference to highlight the new tools in honor of National First Responders Day. Moody says nearly 90 first responders died by suicide since 2019. To try to end mental health stigma, the state has launched the Hope Line to provide confidential and emotional support statewide. The service is in addition to the Crisis Center which was launched about five years ago.
Trump To Host Election Watch Party In South Florida
(West Palm Beach, FL) -- Former President Donald Trump is planning to host an election night watch party in South Florida next week. The campaign for the Republican presidential nominee is planning to hold the event at the Palm Beach County Convention Center on November 5th. A recent poll by the University of North Florida shows that Trump is ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris by ten-percentage points. Early voting is currently underway across the state.
Man Arrested For Shooting Estranged Wife In Volusia County
(DeLand, FL) -- A man is in custody after a family dispute turned violent in Volusia County. DeLand Police announced yesterday that Bertram Martin turned himself in after a shooting Sunday night on Springdale Court. The 30-year-old allegedly shot his estranged wife, her sister and brother after an argument. The male victim is in critical condition. Martin is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, but police say more charges are pending. Martin is being held without bond.
Florida Cop Breaks Ankle During Final Of Buc-Falcons In Tampa
(Tampa, FL) -- A Florida police officer is injured after suffering a broken ankle during the last play of the Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons game in Tampa Sunday. Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield threw a Hail Mary pass as time expired to the back of the endzone when receiver Rakim Jarrett caught the ball out of bounds. Jarret landed on the officer who was facing the stands and had his back turned to the game. Florida Highway Patrol gave thanks to an Atlanta player that immediately checked on the officer after the play.
It's Against Law To Shoot Silly String In Hollywood
(Hollywood, CA)-- Just in time for Halloween, officials in Hollywood are reminding the public about a silly law that carries stiff penalties for violators. Signs are posted up and down Hollywood Boulevard, the Sunset Strip, and other parts of the area that say Silly String is prohibited all day on October 31 and November 1. The product can cause thousands of dollars in property damage to businesses, cars, and the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame stars. Anyone caught using Silly String during those prime Halloween hours faces a not-so-silly penalty of up to six months in jail and a one-thousand-dollar fine.
