UF Professor Sues Over State Law

(Tallahassee, FL) --A University of Florida professor is challenging a state law affecting people from China. UF researcher Zhengfei Guan and two Florida International University doctoral students filed their lawsuit yesterday. The suit targets SB 846 that was signed into law last year. The law is designed to protect American interests from threats from seven countries, including China. Part of the law says colleges and universities can't enter into agreements with foreign principals. Guan claims the law harmed him because it prevented him from hiring an assistant from China that was the most qualified applicant. The Tampa Bay Times reports Guan's supporters and others who oppose the law are planning to rally today at UF where the Board of Governors is meeting.

Diddy's Homes Raided By Feds

(Miami Beach, FL) -- The federal government is investigating alleged activities at two Miami-Dade County homes owned by Sean 'Diddy' Combs. Homeland Security agents raided Combs' two homes in Miami Beach on Star Island yesterday. A music producer sued Combs last month for running what the plaintiff calls a criminal sex trafficking operation. There's no word on what evidence may have been seized in the raids, and no arrests have been announced.

Sanford Discusses Downtown Parking Solutions

(Sanford, FL) --There will be no quick solution to Sanford's downtown parking problem. The city commission met yesterday for a workshop to discuss ways to add more parking spots downtown. Mayor Art Woodruff says he's open to a wide range of solutions, but he wants it to be a collaborative process. He says he wants businesses and residents working together to find a solution that works for everyone. Commissioners discussed holding a meeting with downtown business and property owners before proposing a solution. No date has been set for that meeting, though.

Fort Worth Man Changes Name To Run For President

(Fort Worth, TX) --A seventh grade math teacher and army veteran in Texas has changed his name to Literally Anybody Else, and is trying to get on the upcoming presidential ballot. The 35-year old from the Fort Worth area was born Dustin Ebey, but he successfully got a Tarrant County judge sign off on the name change. Mr. Else has already filed with the Federal Election Commission and is now working to get on state ballots as an independent candidate. He says he understands it's a longshot to get on state ballots at this late of a date, but he hopes word will spread and voters will write him in come November. His campaign website is literallyanybodyelse.com.
